ZPM Proxy - How to Deploy and Setup the ZIRO Proxy Server (OVA)

The following article provides the necessary steps to deploy the ZIRO Proxy Server OVA.

Supported Virtualization

Our OVA runs Virtual Machine Hardware Version 10 and is compatible with ESXi 5.5 and later.

Required Skills / Information

  • Requires a vSphere Administrator capable of deploying an OVA Image
  • Requires a network administrator capable of configuring your DNS and providing the details about the new machine:
    • IP Address
    • Subnet Mask
    • Default Gateway
    • NTP Server
    • DNS Server

Startup your Proxy Server

  1. Power on the Virtual Machine.

  2. Open the console and wait for the login prompt (the machine can take a couple of minutes to boot up).

  3. Login using the following default credentials:

  4. You will be prompted one more time to provide the password.

    Please be patient :pray: as the DH parameters are generated, which can take a few minutes :hourglass:.

Change the Default SSH Password

  1. Select the Change Password menu item and securely store the credentials for later use.

Setup Network Details

Select the View/Edit Network Configuration menu item to configure the machine’s network details using the information from the step titled Determine Network Configuration Details.

Once you have completed this step, you may exit the vSphere console and access the machine’s console using your favorite SSH client (Putty, SecureCRT, etc.).

You must connect to the IP you set up in step 2 of this section and log in using s8admin and the password you updated in step 1.

Install the ZIRO Proxy Application (called smacs)

  1. Go to Install/Upgrade Applications

  2. You will be prompted for your s8admin account password

  3. When asked: ? Which app would you like to install/upgrade? Select the value containing the work smacs

  4. Wait for the smacs was successfully installed/upgraded message.

    Please be patient :pray: as the application deploys, this step can take up to 5 minutes :hourglass:.

Change Default Web Password

These are the credentials you will use to login from the browser. The default username and password are admin/admin.

  1. Go to View/Change Application Credentials
  2. Update the credentials

    2.1 Update the username by selecting Set Username
    2.2 Update the password by selecting Set Password
    2.3 Select Save Changes

Confirm Web access to the machine

  1. Connect to the machine’s hostname or ip using your browser to confirm the machine is accessible from the web.

    You should see the ZIRO login screen.

  2. Validate that the credentials setup in previous step correctly log you in.

Install Certificate on the Proxy Server

  1. Go to the Settings menu using the gear in the top right.

  2. Go to the System > Certificate Management.

    If you are using a wildcard certificate, simply upload both your Certificate and Key using the Wildcard Certificate option and proceed to step 5.

  3. Navigate to the Generate CSR Tab to the right and provide all the required information and click on Generate CSR.

  4. Get the CSR signed against your chosen Certificate Authority to generate a signed Certificate to upload to ZIRO PLATFORM (ON-PREM).

  5. Import the signed certificate into ZIRO PLATFORM (ON-PREM) using the Import Certificate Tab.

  6. Once the certificate is uploaded, you will need to restart the ZIRO PLATFORM (ON-PREM) web server for the changes to take effect. Log into the stack8-console and select the last option to restart the web server and complete you certificate installation.

Setup Proxy Server Connection

Now that the server is up and running with a license, you can set up the connection between your proxy and ZPM.
